Aegir Wave Power is to extend the deployment of its waverider buoy deployed around 4km off the coast of St Ninian's Isle, southwest Shetland, on co-ordinates:
59 58.560N 01 26.500W (WGS 84 datum)
The buoy is yellow, 0.7m in diameter and fitted with a yellow flashing light. The buoy is moored by a slack line with underwater floats which allows the buoy to move around a 200m radius watch circle. Mariners are asked to keep a distance from the buoy.
The buoy will remain onsite for a further 1 - 3 years, removed occasionally for maintenance. NAFC Marine Centre will monitor and maintain the buoy while it is onsite.
EFFORT CONTROL LIMITATION
As per section 4 of the Shetland Islands Regulated Fishery (Scotland) Order 2012, the following effort control limitation will be in place from 30 June 2013 - the limit has been set at a maximum of 600 creels per vessel, of which, no more than 240 creels may be used to fish for velvet crab (Necora puber).
