We manage and regulate the fisheries for shellfish within Shetland’s six mile limit. This is done by issuing licences and implementing regulations and other measures to ensure the long-term sustainability of these fisheries. SSMO promotes the recovery of shellfish stocks through stock enhancement and other management measures.

The closed season has entered its last phase. All creel fishermen who had not chosen their own four-week closure must now cease catching or landing velvet crab from Monday 31st August until midnight on the night of Sunday 27th September.
